I started as an intern in the Communications department. I was always interested in the residential programs and I applied when an opportunity became available. Working at NYSERDA in the residential sector fits well with my educational background and interests.

Laura Geel

Laura Geel

I work on the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program and am responsible for program policy development, budget management, reporting, various incentive programs, and the program’s implementation contract.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Every day is different. There are always new challenges and that keeps me on my toes. Currently, I’m leading an effort to automate many of the program’s business processes to be able to scale up production in a cost-effective way.

What are you most proud of professionally & personally?

Professionally, I’m proud that I have been able to highlight my capabilities and have grown from an intern to an Associate Project Manager in less than four years. Personally, I’m proud that I graduated from my MBA program as the Outstanding MBA Student of the Year and was one of the youngest to graduate from that program. I conquered some challenges and proved that you can accomplish anything when you set your mind to it.

I’m also proud of my nieces and nephews, all with their own unique personalities. It’s so much fun watching them grown up.

What are the reasons for your success?

I’m passionate about the work I do and am dedicated to doing a good job. I ask questions and try to look at problem solving from multiple angles.

If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?

I would share some of it with my family, save some and use the rest to travel. I’d love to visit all 50 states. So far, I have spent time in about 20 states, including a honeymoon in Alaska last year.

What’s one thing about yourself you would like others to know?

I’m a country girl at heart. I live in the same small rural town where I was raised. I love the tranquility, open spaces and nature. It gives me peace after a busy day at work.
