How did you get your start at NYSERDA?
Earlier in my career, I lived in many areas of the U.S. and Canada. When my husband and I settled in Albany, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to pursue a career at NYSERDA. Prior to joining NYSERDA, my experience was primarily within technical areas of the energy and water industries but I also had worked as an engineering consultant for several years. While my background is in the field of Chemical Engineering, I also have a broader range of professional objectives which align well with NYSERDA’s mission. I felt that NYSERDA would be a perfect place to apply my wide range of skills within my overarching interest in the energy space.
What are your primary work duties?
The Energy and Environmental Markets group is involved in the design and implementation of market based programs such as the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS), the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and the Clean Air Interstate Rule (CAIR). I manage the procurement of grid scale renewables in New York State under the Main Tier of the RPS, sell CAIR NOx allowances assigned to NYSERDA which are used to fund renewable and energy efficiency programs, and work with our Energy Analysis group to complete multifaceted evaluations of renewable and emissions programs.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy the complexity and variety of work in my position and also the opportunity to be involved in efforts which impact New York State’s energy future. I work with an incredibly talented team of professionals at NYSERDA and benefit from the knowledge and insights I can glean from them.
What are you most proud of professionally and personally?
Professionally, I am proud of the visible achievements of my group in implementing market-based programs which bring significant economic and environmental benefits to New York State. I am also proud that I am nearing completion of a Masters in Business Administration degree, a goal I’ve held for many years. The coursework has broadened my view of our group’s work and enhanced my contributions to NYSERDA, as well.
Personally, I could not be more proud of my four school-aged children who contribute greatly to our family unit as well as my husband, who is incredibly supportive of my endeavors. As you might imagine, we have a very busy household! I enjoy all of our adventures together as a family, including a cross country trip planned for next summer!
